San Diego, Texas - Roel R. Garcia, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the age of 80, in Alice, Texas. Roel was born on June 8, 1942, to Guadalupe G. Garcia and Catalina “Cora” Garcia in San Diego, Texas. Roel Graduated from San Diego High School in 1960. In his senior year, he met his wife Idolina “Lole” Solis Garcia. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. Roel and Idolina would then marry in 1962. He would serve for 4 years in the Amy Medical Branch. Upon completion of his service in the US Army, he came back to San Diego and went to Mortuary School at the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, where he received his Funeral Director and Mortician License. After completing Mortuary School he went to work for Mauro P. Garcia in San Diego, TX, for several years. His career in the Funeral industry would take him to live and work in places such as Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio, and Victoria before retiring and settling back in San Diego, Texas. He would go on to continue raising his family in San Diego, where he supported his family tremendously. He was his family’s biggest fan. He supported them in every aspect of their lives, whether it was Lole, Roel Jr, Ronnie, Randy, or Ryan. He would do and give whatever he could and whatever he had for them to try and follow their dreams. This same love and support continued onto his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Roel was a devout Catholic, Eucharistic Minister, and Cursillista. His greatest legacy achievement was to be able to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends in February of 2022. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his newfound love of computers, the internet, Facebook, and Messenger. You could always count on him to be brutally honest, but only with the best of intentions. He was “One of a Kind.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe G. Garcia and Catalina "Cora" Garcia, one brother, Rene Garcia, and his sister, Elmira Mirelez. He is survived by his wife, Idolina S. Garcia; four sons, Roel Garcia, Jr., Ronnie ( Erain) Garcia, Randy (Carol) Garcia, and Ryan (Yolanda) Garcia, two brothers; Rudy Garcia, Raul (Ana Lisa) Garcia, twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews and friends. Visitations will begin on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in San Diego, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego. Burial to follow at the San Diego Cemetery, with Military honors, to be conducted at the gravesite by the United Veterans Burial Association of Alice. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements. Active pallbearers: Roel Garcia Jr, Ronnie Garcia, Randy Garcia, Ryan Garcia, Matthew Garcia, and Zack Garcia.

My deepest condolences to Randy, Ryan and the entire Garcia family. Mr Garcia’s profound “brutal honesty” will always be a memorable one! We all share the great blessing. I hope those cherished memories will help ease the pain for the Garcia family. You are in our prayers.

Today, Aug, 31, I learned Roel passed away. I am so sorry to learn this. Roel and I went to mortuary school together and shared an apartment. He was such a nice guy, My sympathy to his wife and family. May he rest in peace!
