Melba Valdez Rodriguez

Corpus Christi-Melba Valdez Rodriguez, a beloved Sister, Aunt, Godmother, Cousin and Friend left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the age of 76. Melba was born in Mendietta, Texas on March 22, 1945, to Enrique Perez Valdez and Adelina Nunez Valdez. She was the fourth child and the third daughter within a family of 9 children but was known as the soft-hearted caregiver of the family, who admired her older siblings while lovingly doing her part to care for her younger siblings. Melba was a proud graduate of the San Diego Vaquero Class of 1964 and then moved to Corpus Christi to make her mark on the world. At age 18, Melba began her career at Braslau’s Furniture Company, alongside her older sister Gloria, until her decision to begin working for the City of Corpus Christi. She remained a longtime, valued employee of the city until her retirement in 2019 after over 40 years of dedicated service. Throughout her life, Melba was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a pillar of strength for her family and longtime friends. She will be remembered for her inner joy, her zest for life, and her immense love for those who loved her, especially her cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and nephews. She will always be admired for her ability to touch and influence everyone around her – from the youngest to the oldest. She made time for everyone and lived in the moment. We will miss her infectious laugh, her caring touch, and the joy she brought to all of our lives. Melba is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Enrique and Adelina Valdez, her brother-in-law Homero Serna, Sr. and her baby sister Florencia Valdez. She is survived by her 4 sisters and 3 brothers Gloria (Homero Sr. +) Serna, Guillermina G. Valdez, Abel Armando (Alma) Valdez, Alicia (Jesse) Elizalde, San Juanita Hernandez, Noe Valdez, and Rene (Belen) Valdez. A Memorial Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday November 12, 2021, in her memory at St Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Tx. Church will open by 6 p.m. A visitation will begin on Tuesday November 16, 2021, at 8 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego. Burial will follow at her final resting place, San Diego Cemetery alongside her parents. Due to Covid-19 Pandemic we ask that everyone continue to wear a mask and social distance at the funeral home, church, and at the cemetery.
