Mauricio V. "Morris" Mendoza III passed away in peace Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the age of 67 after a short illness surrounded by his family and friends. He was born to Mauricio S. Mendoza and Manuela V. Mendoza on March 22, 1951 in Alice, Texas. He worked at the Naval Base in Corpus Christi, Texas for 41 years, where he was a head rigger, back hoe operator, fork lift operator, heavy equipment operator, assisted with the cement finisher and the ground crew in moving heavy equipment and materials to the job site. He was the consummate utility person. There was never a job too big or small for his expertise. He was also a master leather and wood craftsman. Morris was a San Diego Class of 1969 graduate. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gun collector and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He married Alma Garcia Mendoza the love of his life on October 16, 1970. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Rosie Gonzalez. Morris is survived by his wife of 48 years Alma Garcia Mendoza, two daughters, Lisa (Roel) Martinez and Yadira (Orlando) Ibañez, one brother, William Creager, two sisters, Maria Creager Rangel and Delfin Benavides, Three granddaughters, Lisandra (Manuel) Maldonado, Brianna Ibarra, Mckenzie Cantu, one grandson Cadriel Ibañez, two great-grandsons, Justin Maldonado and Easten Maldonado, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home-San Diego with a Rosary to be recited the same evening at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery No.2. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes, Inc. in charge of arrangements.
