San Diego-Mario O. Benavides, 71 years of age passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mario was a 1967 San Diego High School graduate and served in the Army for 2 years. He worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot for 42 years. Mario loved hunting, listening to classical and oldies music. He loved western movies, playing games on his computer and enjoyed his beer and cigarettes. Mario loved to work out and was known for telling jokes. He was a strong man, a wonderful husband, father, stepfather, uncle, friend and will be missed dearly. He was and will always be the love of my life (Adriana). Preceded in death by his adopted father, Mariano Benavides, Biological father, Jose De La Rosa, his mother, Gregoria Perez and maternal grandmother, Paulita Gonzalez. Survivors include his wife, Adriana G. Benavides, San Diego, Texas, one son, Marcos (Victoria Cotton) De La Rosa, Corpus Christi, Texas, one daughter, Marina Leila Castillo, Corpus Christi, Texas, 2 step-sons, David C. (Stephanie) Lopez, Jr., Eduardo "Eddie" (Cheryl Furney) Lopez, both of San Diego, Texas, one brother, Jose (Magdalena) De La Rosa, San Diego, Texas, three sisters, Melva Lopez, San Diego, Texas, Angelica Perez, Austin, Texas and Adelina (Roel) Trigo, San Diego, Texas, 14, grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers, Jose De La Rosa, Jr., Jose De La Rosa, III., Michael De La Rosa, Marcos De La Rosa, Bryan Trevino, David Lopez, Jr., Eduardo Lopez. Due to Covid-19 Pandemic we will follow all CDC and Government mandates, we ask everyone to follow the guidelines by social distancing and wearing masks inside the Funeral Home and Church. Sorry for your loss, Mario is and was a childhood friend, we go back to playing stick ball on Dix st and Guenter street where the old mom and pop grocery store was where my family lived just behind the store. I still remember his nick name that I used to still call home since we were kids. For those if you that do not know it it was " Early" when I 1st saw him at the Army depot. I called out to him and said Hey Early he turned with a big smile and looked at me and said" I haven't heard that name since we were kids.
