Maria Martha Saenz Valerio, 78, our angel on earth, left us to return to her Lord in the early minutes of March 19, 2023. Martha was born in Alice, Texas, just before the end of World War II, on February 6, 1945, to Maria Inez and Octavio Saenz from Benavides, finishing high school there. Graduating from the then Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Martha found her lifelong passion: working with and helping those in need in her adopted San Diego, settling there after she married Evaristo Valerio and raising her four children, whom she loved fiercely. She worked for San Diego ISD for 35 years as a Social Worker and Director of Special Programs. She was also genuinely devoted to her friends, many from childhood, and to her small town. Martha loved and helped the people who most needed it in her beloved community, making a better world for all she met. She will be missed. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Evaristo Valerio, Sr., her beloved brothers, Octavio "Sonny", Roberto "Bob”, and her dear sisters-in-law Angelita Valerio Munoz, and Adelina V. Santos. Surviving her are her children, Juan Antonio Valerio, Clarisa Adela Villa, Ana Cristina Perez (Mauro H. Garcia, Jr.), and Evaristo Valerio, Jr.(Anissa), her sister Ana Isabel Saenz, her sister in law Alma V. Gonzalez (Gabriel Sr.) and her grandchildren, Lukas Andres Perez, Layla Cristina Garcia, Eva G. Villa, Mateo and Nicolas Valerio, and other friends and relatives.
Active Pallbearers: Gabriel Gonzalez, Jr., Romeo Munoz, Jr., Paul Saenz, Ronnie Munoz, Lukas Perez, Mauro H. Garcia, Jr. Visitation will begin at 5pm - 9pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 with a Rosary to be recited at 7pm at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in San Diego, Tx. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 10am at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Valerio Cemetery in La Rosita, Tx.
