Lucia G. Acuña

Lucia G. Acuña was called into eternal rest on Friday, January 18, 2019.  She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and closest family members.  She was born to the marital union of Clemente Garcia and Cleotilde Garcia-Garcia on November 3, 1941 in San Diego, Texas.
At age 16 , Lucia and her family relocated from San Diego to Corpus  Christi. She graduated from Ray High School in 1959, received her        undergraduate degree from The Texas A & I University (1973), and        received her master’s degree from Corpus Christi State University. She proudly served her community as a science teacher and later a school   counselor with CCISD and San Antonio ISD for 33 years.  She was a     devoted Catholic and proud grandmother of eight beautiful grandchildren.  She never missed an important graduation, soccer game, or Friday night football game.  She was a best friend and mother to all who knew her.  Lucia had the distinct ability to easily transition from heals and pearls to boots and a brush jacket, and would gladly accommodate her     visitors with her famous chili, tamales, or delicious snacks.

On September 1, 1962, she married Arturo Acuña in Corpus Christi and celebrated 53 years of marriage.  She had four children, Christi, Jeff,   Carina, and Adrian.  
Lucia is survived by her brother Ruben Garcia (Bey, deceased); Sisters
Olga Bonilla (Tony), Dora McClurg (Henry, deceased), and Nicki Valdez (Sal, deceased); daughters Christina Shafer (Bill), and Carina Terry (Mark); sons Arthur Jeffrey Acuña, and Adrian Acuña (Corinne); grandchildren
David Shafer (Sarah), Allison Ledesma (Teo), AJ Acuña, Hannah Terry, Lydia Terry, Andy Acuña, Joseph Terry and James Terry.  She is preceded in death by her loving husband Arturo (2016), brother Clemente Garcia (2008), and sister Mary Lou Gonzalez (1978)

Holy Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 7pm at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Viewing begins at 5pm. 
Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at The Immaculate Conception Mission Church in Concepcion, Texas.

Interment will follow at the Acuña Family Cemetery located at 49 CR 243 in Concepcion, Texas.

Michael Patrick, AJ Acuña, Andy Acuña, David Shafer, Joseph Terry, James Terry, Bobby McClurg. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Lucia asked that donations be made to the South Texas Literacy Coalition which is located at 108 N Jackson Rd, Edinburg, Texas.
