San Diego- Lilia Edna Garcia Salinas went to her heavenly home on October 25, 2018 surrounded by the family whom she dearly loved.  She was born in San Diego, Texas on February 17, 1939 to her parents Isidoro Longoria Garcia and Herlinda Gonzalez Garcia.  She was a descendant of several pioneer families in Duval County.  Lilia graduated from San Diego High School in 1957 and she loved her Vaqueros.

Lilia is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ricardo Homer Garcia, Sr., and father to her children Ignacio Salinas, Sr.

She is survived by her sons, Ignacio Salinas, Jr. (Ernest Singleton), Orlando (Mary Judith) Salinas, and her daughter Rosa Amina “Rosie” Olivares.  Five grandchildren, Marlena Rose Olivares, Orlando Christopher (Melissa) Salinas,  Mariel Isela (Mike) Sanchez, Benjamin Peter Olivares, and Zachary Taylor Salinas.  Lilia was very enamored with her six great grand children.  Also surviving her are a nephew, Ricardo H. “Ricky” (Nora) Garcia, Jr. and a niece Gloria Stella (Danny) Sandoval who she loved dearly; as well as a life long friend Maria Irma Garcia.

Lilia lived a life of service to her God, her family, and her community.  She was a member of St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church where she belonged to several organizations.  She served on various boards of directors that brought much needed services to her community.  She was very proud to be the first female professional criminal investigator in the state of Texas.  She served as Justice of the Peace for precinct one for over 20 years.  She often mentioned how thankful she was to her community for the honor to serve in that office.

When asked what was her hardest and favorite job, she always answered without hesitation, “Being a mom, because it is forever”.  She was quick to remind her family that she was our mom.  The daughter of a school teacher, she valued education and insisted her children do their best in their studies.  She was a life long learner, keeping current in affairs of family and community.  She enjoyed time with family and friends reminiscing of times gone by and having lively discussions about the politics of the day.

She will be sadly missed, yet lovingly remembered by her family and friends. She will always remain in the hearts of those who admired and respected her.  Lilia was truly a woman of conviction and action.

The family is very grateful to all who have expressed condolences and kindness during their time of sorrow.  In keeping with Lilia’s commitment to help others in need, the family asks that in lieu of flowers donation be made to the American Cancer Society in your area.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church at 10:00 am.  Interment of ashes will follow at San Diego Cemetery.

Our condolence to the Family:
God well knows the pain we suffer and he cares. Exodus 3:7; 1Peter 5:7. Look forward to the future with confidence, Acts 24:15 says, ...”there is going to be a resurrection...”. For more comfort please visit our website: jw.org and view the faith strengthening video: Is There Hope for the Dead? 🌼
