Juan “Johnny” Everett 1938-2021 San Diego – Juan R. Everett, 83, passed away in his home in San Diego, Texas October 24, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 9, 1938, in San Diego, Texas to Ernesto Everett Sr. and Hilaria Rios Everett. He was the youngest of nine children. He was named Juan, but everyone, including his parents, called him Johnny. Johnny attended San Diego ISD schools and graduated from San Diego High School in 1955. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation. Upon his return to Texas in 1959, he continued to serve in the Air Force reserves until 1963. On February 9, 1964, he married the love of his life, Esther Flores. They were married 57 years but were a devoted couple for 60 years. He spent his life working with several companies in Corpus Christi, Alice, and Brady, Texas. He retired at the age of 62. Always busy and ready for something new, he came out of retirement at age 75 and went to work for South Texas Pest Control from 2013 to 2019. He was a skilled carpenter and spent his free time in his backyard workshop, often creating gifts for friends and family. He was always working on a project, such as adding rooms and patios to his home. Even after he turned 80, Johnny could be seen doing his own roof repairs. Johnny enjoyed playing guitar and harmonica, painting, drawing, photography, gardening, and more recently, embroidery, creating intricate patterns on fabric. He was a good writer and did not hesitate to fire off letters to companies that did not meet his expectations for quality and service. When he wasn’t busy with his many hobbies, he liked to sit in his recliner and watch a movie with a cat in his lap or listen to music outside on the patio with Esther. He loved family gatherings and holidays, and he always wanted to open gifts on Christmas Eve. It always began with just one gift, but it never ended there. He had a huge sweet tooth, and it was a challenge to keep him away from holiday desserts before it was time to eat. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto Everett, Sr. and Hilaria Rios Everett, and by his siblings, Elida Everett Soliz, Guillermo Everett, Alejandra Everett, Adan Everett, Antonia Everett King, Elodia Everett, Ernesto Everett, Jr., and an infant sister, Maria Florita Everett, who only lived a few weeks. He was also preceded in death by an older half-brother, Lorenzo Everett Cantu of Beeville. He is survived by his wife, Esther Flores Everett; three children, Judith Everett Ramos (E. Omar Ramos) of Hurst; Margaret Everett-Garcia (Marco Garcia) of San Diego; Stephen Julian Everett (Christy Everett) of Brady; and five grandchildren, Ariana Garcia, Damian Everett, John-Ross Ramos, Margaret A. Garcia, and Kaitlyn Everett. He is also survived by two first cousins whom he loved very much, Arnoldo Everett and Blanca Everett Alaniz; many nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends; his cat, Bailey, and his beloved dog, Prissy, who loved dancing for him to get extra treats. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9:00 a.m. at Mauro P.
