Jose (J.O.) Oscar Barrera, passed away on September 7, 2022, at the age of 99 at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a graduate of San Diego High School class of 1941 and served in WWII in the Army Air Corp Division from 1942-1946. He served as the Duval County Veterans Service officer and Emergency Management Coordinator for 50+ years. He loved serving the veterans in Duval County and the surrounding counties of Jim Wells, Brooks, and Nueces. He is preceded in death by his wife Tomacita (Tommie) Peña Barrera his daughter Celeste Belinda Barrera Solis, his brothers Arnoldo Barrera, Armando (Blondie) Barrera, Juan Barrera, Raul (Tomaton) Barrera, Reynaldo (Rey) Barrera, Ruben Barrera and sister Guadalupe (Lupe) R. Chapa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survivors include his son Joe O. Barrera, Jr., son-in-law Corando Solis, granddaughter Jessica Leah Barrera, grandsons Saul Andres Barrera and Ryan Jay Barrera, and his great-granddaughter Padmé Marie Barrera. The visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Rosary will be recited that same morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church followed by the Funeral Mass. Burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes are entrusted with the arrangements.
