Benavides, TX. - Hector (Echo) Mario Chapa, age 71, entered his journey to eternal life on Thursday, December 30, 2021, after a long illness. He resided at the La Paloma Nursing Home in San Diego Tx. where he was cared for and entertained with many wonderful activities and celebrations by the nurses and staff. Hector grew up in the city of Benavides, Tx, where he resided with his parents and brother for many wonderful years. Although he dealt with medical issues, he still was able to attend school till the 11th grade. With the support of his family, Hector was able to receive his GED several years later. He enjoyed music so much, that he attended area fiestas, dances, and other social events. His joy for music led him to learn the guitar and the accordion with the help of other musicians. It brought him great joy to have been privileged to have met many talented musicians. Other hobbies that he enjoyed were going to the ranch with his dad and brother where they would work cattle and other ranch activities. He attended the Benavides Real Senior Center where he participated in daily activities such as bingo, arts, and crafts. Hector was an avid Benavides Eagles and Dallas Cowboys fan. As a true fan, there was not an Eagle home game that he would not attend or a Dallas Cowboy game he wouldn't watch. Hector was a hats, boots, and buckle type of guy. As many of you may know he had a very special bond with his mother Celia, she was his guardian angel his whole life. He is preceded in death by his parents Hector and Celia Canales (Bebe) Chapa. His paternal grandparents Lazaro and Nicholas Chapa. Maternal grandparents Fidencio and Celia Canales. Numerous Loving Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins on both sides of the Chapa and Canales Families. Survivors include his brother Fidencio O. Chapa and his be-loved sister-in-law Cynthia I. Chapa. His nephews and niece Roel Rolando (Dolores) Saenz, Andres Orlando Chapa (Brianna Rodriguez), and Victoria Marie (MJ) Chapa Alaniz. He is also survived by an extended loving family of Aunts, Uncles and cousins including family from Roma, Salineńo, and Falcon Heights. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to La Paloma Nursing Home and Staff, for the wonderful care and love he received that made Hector feel at home. We would also like to thank the Hospice Care Nurses on Wheels. We also appreciate all the visitors who took time to visit him during his stay at the home. Hector will be deeply missed by family and friends, but we know that he is in a better place, and it gives us great peace to know that. Gods Blessings to All. Visitation will begin on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 8:00am – 10:00am with a Rosary to be recited at 9 a.m. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church. Burial to follow at the Benavides Cemetery. Active Pallbearers: Hugo Rene Chapa, Cleofas Gonzalez, Jr. Jaime Chapa, Will Ibañez, Andres Orlando Chapa, MJ Alaniz. Honorary Pallbearers: Daniel Chapa, and Adrian Gonzalez. Due to Covid-19 Pandemic we ask that you wear a mask at the Funeral Home, church, and at the cemetery. Mauro P. I remember when Celia (Bebe) opened up her restaurant in the mid 1960s next to her residence in the corner (it was made of stucco) with the bar and stools and dine in tables Echo was always there to greet us all with a handshake and a smile on his face. (By the way Medina Garza a very fine person was the cook and I tell you "she" made the best burgers in town not to mention the super delicious plate lunches, the business also had a juke box with all the hits of that era) Celia was a sweet heart and I always admired her hair especially when she sprayed it with silver or gold spray paint and always utilized blue eye shadow, she was a very pretty lady. Celia once told me before she expired "Roy , I am not afraid of dying what worries me the most is leaving Echo behind" well now "He" will be united with his earth angel who now resides in that big mansion in the sky. My condolences to all of the family of Mr. Hector (Echo) Chapa, Jr. & may our Heavenly Father greet you with his loving arms.
