Mendieta Community- With heavy hearts, the Benavides family regrets to announce the passing of our beloved Frank J. Benavides II, also known as “Frankie.” God took him home on January 19, 2023, at 4:52 p.m. at the age of 37 years old. He was born on June 8, 1985, in Alice, Texas to Frank and Cynthia (Cindy) Benavides. Frankie will forever be remembered as the life of the party, happy-go-lucky son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was always known for lending a helping hand and loved his family dearly. Frankie will be remembered as a kind, loving person with a heart of gold. Frankie enjoyed the ranch life, listening to music and attending his childhood church on Sundays. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia L. Benavides. His paternal grandparents Florentino and Santos Benavides, maternal grandfather Juan H. Lichtenberger Jr., Aunt Rebecca Warden, cousins Benjamin Salinas III, Amanda Lichtenberger, Teresa Carla Burkholder and Baby David Cantu III. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his Father, Frank (Nancy) J. Benavides of San Diego, Texas; his older sister, Daniella Benavides Gonzales of Alice, Texas; his sister, Audrey (Oscar) Saenz of Alice, Texas; brother, Joshua (Kathryn) Benavides of Alice, Texas; his nieces and nephews, Madison Danae Perez, Gavin Soliz, Mia Garcia, Ryan D. Gonzales and twins Kamila and Kamryn Benavides; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be: Mark A. Benavides, Santiago (Jimmy) Garcia Jr., Victoriano Casas III, Joshua Ryan Benavides, Oscar Saenz II, Raul Camilo Garcia, Jr., Manuel Salinas, Juan Mario (JM) Lichtenberger, Keith Sanchez and Kevin Sanchez. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-3) Family will receive friends and relatives at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a prayer service to begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the burial at the Benavides Family Cemetery, Mendieta Community.

I remember his paternal grandparents with fondness and am very sorry to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to the families. I spent my summers, at times, in Mendieta.
