San Jose Community - Felix L. Barrera, 69 years old, was a life-long resident of the San Jose community. Felix graduated from San Diego High School, Class of 1970, and attended college. Felix served in the U.S. Army for several years. He completed the Military Policeman Course and was stationed in Germany. Felix worked as a policeman and detective in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1975. Not only was he a proud and loving son, husband, father, and Popo, he was an avid horse trainer and breeder. Working and training his horses was his favorite pastime. Felix also found pleasure in hunting, fishing, playing dominoes, and being a dog-father to Mija, Leila, Panda, and Partner. Felix never met a stranger. If you were his friend, you had a friend that you could count on. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raul Barrera and Consuelo Lopez Barrera, his brother, Raul Barrera, and one great-granddaughter, Brylee Trejo. He is survived by his wife, Blanca E. Barrera, two sons, Felix Barrera, Jr. and Lee (Stephanie) Barrera, two daughters, Refugia "Cookie" Barrera and Sabrina Barrera, and three step-daughters, Charissee (Roberto) Cardoze, Desiree (Vicente) Fernandez and Elyse Garza, three sisters, Diana (Rodolfo) Bazan, Yolanda (Sam) Barfoot, and Lucy (Scott) McCabe, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin on June 22, 2022, at 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in San Diego with a Prayer Service to be conducted at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas with a Funeral Service scheduled at 1 p.m. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes, Inc. is entrusted with arrangements.
