Dr. Hector Oliveira, D.D.S., 89, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022. He was born on November 3, 1932, in Benavides, Texas to Serapio and Maria Garcia Oliveira. Hector graduated first in his class from Corpus Christi High School in 1950 and furthered his education at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1954. Hector attended Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1958. He was licensed to practice dentistry in both Louisiana and Texas. Upon completing dental school, Hector served as a Captain in the United States Air Force practicing dentistry while stationed in Duluth, Minnesota. Dr. Hector Oliveira practiced dentistry for over sixty years. Hector married Dr. Elizabeth Jane Morphy, M.D. on August 8, 1958, and for many years together, they raised their children Hector, Alan Abraham, Mary Kathleen, and Elizabeth. He enjoyed taking his children with him when, now and then, he returned to his office in the evenings. On Sundays, he would often say, “Let’s go for a drive.” The drive along the water would end up at his mother’s house where she would be making fresh tortillas with arroz con pollo on the table ready to eat. Hector was a member of the American Dental Association, earned Life Membership in the Texas Dental Association, and served as President of The Southwest Prosthodontic Society. He was involved in various civic and social organizations as well as donating dental services regularly. Hector’s hobbies included building electronics - many HeathKit project results still exist in his house, photography - he enjoyed developing his own film in his darkroom, playing tennis, and playing darts. Hector was an avid golfer, rarely missing a single day of playing golf. Hector was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his parents, Serapio and Maria Garcia Oliveira; his brothers, Crescencio Oliveira, D.D.S., Carlos Oliveira, and Serapio N. Oliveira O.D.; his sisters, Bertha O. Thompson, and Gracia Oliveira; and his son-in-law, Jeffrey Steven Fant. He is survived by his children, Hector Oliveira (Petra González Pallarés), Alan Abraham Oliveira, Mary Kathleen Oliveira Fant, Elizabeth Oliveira, Sarah Jane Oliveira Gipson (Mitchell) and Heather Gold; his grandchildren, Benjamin Morphy Oliveira, Andrew John Ronald (Caitlin) Bird, Maria Antonia Elizabeth Bird (Justin Wood), William Matthew James Bird (Amanda Boé), Elizabeth Marie Fant, Dennis Alan Fant, Hannah May Oliveira Gold and Hector Martin Shane Oliveira Gold, and Lowen Frances Gipson; his great-grandchildren, Emily Anne Martinez and Daniel John Andrew Bird; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family which includes the Oliveira, Galvan, Gonzalez and Prezas families. Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas with interment to follow at the Benavides Cemetery. Mauro P.
