San Diego- Arturo "Bido" Contreras 51 years of age passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at his residence. Arturo was a former oilfield worker and cement layer for many years. He loved gambling and was an avid Houston Astros fan. His pride and joys were his grandchildren and loved spending all his time with them. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Estanislado and Beatrize L. Contreras Sr. and his maternal grandparents, Jose Hernandez, Sr., and Emilia Salinas and Father in law Francisco D. (Poncho) Gonzalez. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Sylvia Gonzalez Contreras, San Diego, Texas, six sons, Arturo Contreras, Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas, Arturo Lucas Contreras, San Diego, Texas, Angel Manuel Contreras, Alice, Texas, Rudy Estringel, Jr. and Kenneth Salinas, II, both of San Diego, Texas, three daughters, Skye Marie (JC) Sandoval , Alice, Texas, Kendra (Jeremiah) Luna, San Diego, Texas, and Liza Contreras, Alice, Texas, parents, Estanislado and Eva Contreras, Alice, Texas mother in-law, Olga B. Gonzalez, San Diego, Texas, six brothers, Tanis (Patsy) Contreras, Robstown, Texas, Danny (Cindy) Contreras, Colorado, Javier( Debani) Contreras, McAllen, Texas, Juan (Pat) Contreras, Armando Contreras, and Joel Contreras, all of Alice, Texas. 13 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Visitation will began on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home- San Diego with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. the same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. Burial will follow and the San Diego Cemetery. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes, Inc. in charge of arrangements.
