Urbano Suarez, age 87, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family on Monday, November 11, 2024, following a short illness. He was born in San Diego, TX on April 12, 1937, to Anselmo & Romanita Suarez. He served in the Navy as Boatswain’s mate for 8 years, where he served as a lookout or as Boatswain’s mate of the watch. He assisted with flight deck operations and teaching seamanship. He served in the Korean War and after being honorably discharged from the Navy, he was a Merchant Seaman and worked with the Coast Guard. He worked on countless vessels providing supplies to soldiers in the Vietnam War. His service among innumerable vessels took him around the world over 8 times. He returned to land to work for the City of Alice and retired after working there for 13 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, ranching, and talking about all his travels around the world.
Urbano is preceded in death by his parents, Anselmo and Romanita Suarez and his loving wife of 54 years Emma D. Suarez. He is survived by his daughters, Diana E. (Mike) Martinez of Alice, TX and Blanca Suarez of Alice, TX. Brother, Anselmo Suarez of Victoria, TX, sisters Ercilia Sandoval of Alice, Tx, Cristina (Joe) Gonzalez of San Antonio, Tx and Rosario Rodriguez of Austin, Tx, three grandchildren Erika (Leon) Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Tx, Jaime Miguel (Michelle) Villarreal of Alice, Tx, and Aaron Martinez of San Antonio, Tx, five great grandchildren Bailynn Villarreal, Aaden Villarreal, Elco Villarreal, Elle Gonzalez, & Levin Gonzalez, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service. Burial to follow at Old Collins Cemetery in Alice, Texas. Arrangements entrusted to Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas.
