Trinidad Jasso, Jr.

Alice, Texas - ​On July 25, 2026 — 73 years, 11 months, and 17 days after he was born — this mortal world said goodbye to Trinidad Jasso, Jr. of Alice, Texas.
 
Born and raised in Alice, Mr. Jasso made himself well-known in his youth both as a Sheriff’s Deputy and, most importantly to him, as a jockey, racing horses across both the “brush tracks” and official racetracks of Texas and beyond. While he worked a multitude of jobs in his life (such as at the Celanese plant in Bishop, Stallion Oilfield Services in Alice, and DE Dietrich in Violet), his main source of pride was his excellence in the craft of horse racing. While an accomplished and champion jockey in his own right, he shifted into helping his family train horses later in life, including another champion quarter horse.
 
He enjoyed the quiet of his ranch and cherished the family and friends he had the grace to accumulate. He had an impeccable sense of humor to the end, always quick with a joke or ready with a quip, an excellence in wordplay that he passed on to his children. When he wasn’t working, he curated a taste for fine cigars and pipe tobacco and enjoyed reminiscing about the old days around Alice or on the track. For his survivors, it’s difficult to imagine the family without him at the center. Their only solace is that he is finally free from his earthly pain and at home with those that went before him.
 
Mr. Jasso was preceded in death by his parents and his four siblings. He leaves behind the saddened souls of his wife, Paula Jasso; six children, Trinidad III (Cindy) Jasso, Mary Ann (Edward) Hawkins, Irene (Luis) Ozuna, Emilio (Alina) Jasso, Marisa Jasso, and Kristen Jasso; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and an inexhaustible list of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
 
A visitation will be on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Chapel in Alice, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice on August 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at New Collins Cemetery.
