an Diego, Texas - Ofelia V. Hernandez It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ofelia V. Hernandez, who left us peacefully on January 11, 2025, at the age of 87. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, Ofelia touched the lives of many with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love. Ofelia dedicated 32 years of her life as a SDISD employee, where she made lasting connections with students, colleagues, and families. Her career was marked by a deep sense of service and commitment to the community. Beyond her professional life, Ofelia was a loving and cherished member of her family, always putting the needs of others before her own. She will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her strength in adversity, and her constant support for her loved ones. In her free time, Ofelia enjoyed trips to Kickapoo, where she found peace and joy. She also had a love for scratch-off lottery tickets, finding excitement in the little moments of life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herminio and Dora Villarreal; her parents-in-law, Francisco and Arcadia Hernandez; her beloved son, Juan Manuel Hernandez; her grandson, Richard Villarreal Jr.; and her siblings, Jose Angel Villarreal, Herminia Gonzalez, and Adelina Jasso. Ofelia is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Francisco Hernandez Jr.; three sons, Jose (Dora) Perales, Frank (Angie) Hernandez, and Israel Hernandez; five daughters, Elsa (Robert) Maldonado, Irene (Abel) Gonzalez, Esmeralda (Jose) Chapa, Dora Lopez, and Lydia (Richard) Villarreal. She is also survived by one granddaughter raised as a daughter, Ivonne (Carlos) Hernandez; daughter-in-law, Margarita Hernandez; and sister-in-law, Idolina H. Villarreal. Additionally, she leaves behind thirty grandchildren, sixty-nine great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, each of whom she held dear to her heart. The family would also like to give special thanks to two special granddaughters, Gracie Lopez and Samantha Vela who were her caregivers for several years. Active Pallbearers: Jose Perales, Frank Hernandez III, Rogelio Gonzalez, Jose Jasso, Daniel Maldonado, Israel Hernandez, Jr., Samson Vela, and Mateo Escalante. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary in her honor to be followed at 6:00 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego. Burial to follow at San Diego Cemetery. Ofelia’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her, and her legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire generations to come. Rest in peace, Ofelia. You will never be forgotten. The family would also like to give a special thanks to two special granddaughters Gracie Lopez and Samantha Vela who were her caregivers for several years. Mauro P.
