In loving memory of Quirino Gonzalez Jr. ‘Cookie, born April 13, 1940, in the close-knit community of Benavides, Texas, whose life journey came to a peaceful end on September 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Cookie’s legacy is one of love, strength, resilience and unwavering dedication to his family.

Cookie was the patriarch of his family and the beloved son of Quirino Gonzalez Sr. and Isabel Gonzalez. He is joyfully reunited in the hereafter with his cherished siblings Estevan (Olga) Gonzalez, infant Juan Gonzalez, Refugia Garza, Irene (Ignacio) Guerra, Amanda (Rosendo) Reyna, Lydia (Miguel) Rosales; brother-in-law Roberto Villarreal.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife; Dorothy Ann Gonzalez, whose partnership and love were the cornerstones of his life. Together they nurtured their family with warmth and kindness; and his brother Jesus "Chune" (Lupita) Gonzalez Sr.

Cookie is survived by his loving children; son Eddie McGee and his wife Carol, daughter; Irene Vecchio, and beloved sister Isabel G. Villarreal who continue to honor his legacy through their lives and actions.

Cookies greatest joy came from the love of his 6 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, who he cherished deeply and who brought him endless happiness and pride. His family was his world, and his legacy will forever be evident in their lives.

His life was a tapestry of love, woven with the threads of strength, kindness, wisdom, gentle humor, and a dedicated provider.  He taught those around him the importance of compassion and resilience, and his presence was a guiding light for many. Cookie’s courageous spirit, even in the face of hardship, was a testament to his strength and character.

A service to celebrate Cookie’s life will be held on October 9, 2026 at 8:00am-10:30am at the Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home, Hwy 44, San Diego, Texas. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 10:30 am to Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church, in Benavides, TX, to celebrate Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Benavides City Cemetery, where Cookie will be laid to rest in the Peace of Christ.

Honoring Cookie as pallbearers are Eddie McGee, Fabian C. Gonzalez, Gregorio Gonzales, Estevan Gonzalez, Louis Gonzalez Jr., and Rolando Villarreal.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Cookie’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization dear to his heart, located in Jacksonville, FL. Through your generosity, Cookie’s spirit of giving and loyalty to his country can continue to touch lives and bring hope to those in need.

Though Cookie is no longer with us, his love, laugher, and legacy will remain in our hearts forever. His life was a beautiful story that will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love he so generously shared during his time with us.
