Maria Esperanza "Espy" Garcia

Maria Esperanza “Espy” Garcia, 85, was called home on December 21, 2025. She was born on August 6, 1940, in San Diego, Texas. 

Espy was a loving, positive aunt who was truly a mother to all her nieces and nephews. Her heart was generous, her spirit joyful, and her presence unforgettable. She loved music, the outdoors, and celebrating life’s many moments with family and friends. Espy found great happiness raising chickens and cattle and spending her days surrounded by animals she deeply loved.

Espy worked for First State Bank of San Diego for many years. Outgoing and full of life, Espy was often described as the life of the party—a special character whose laughter and energy brought people together. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and would be profoundly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso Garcia Sr., and Estefana Lerma; her sisters, Minerva Soliz, Amada Lamar Munoz, and Lupita Garcia; and her brothers, Alonso Garcia, Alfonso Garcia, and Amando Garcia.

She is survived by her brother, Ruben Munoz; her sister, Yolanda Galvan; and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Frances de Paula Catholic Church. Burial will follow at San Diego Cemetery.
