Corpus Christi, Texas – With deep sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved wife and mother, JoAnn M. Amaya, on August 19, 2024, at the age of 64. JoAnn was a cherished daughter, devoted wife, nurturing mother, and beloved sister. Her sudden departure leaves an indescribable void in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. JoAnn was a brilliant accountant, known for her sharp mind and dedication to her work. At home, she was a loving and caring person, always putting her family and husband first. She was a talented cook, whose meals brought everyone together. In her leisure time, JoAnn loved playing games on her iPad, reading books, and enjoying short foreign films. Her warmth, intellect, and loving nature will be dearly missed by all who knew her. JoAnn is survived by the love of her life and husband of 27 years, Rene L. Amaya; her mother, Marie Barrera, her daughters, April and Crystal; and her stepsons, Michael (Betty) and Rolando (Nicole). She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Kendra (Drew), Brice, Layden, Lance, Alisa, and Ellie, and a beloved great-grandmother to Harper and Alexia. JoAnn also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Additionally, she is survived by her siblings, Sylvia (Sheldon), Andre, Christina (Jeffery), Daniel (Sherry), Javiel (Rosy) and Christella; her sister-in-law Becky (David); and her brother-in-law Rudy (Leah). JoAnn joins her father, Jose Barrera, in eternal rest. Visitation will begin on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home – San Diego, followed by a Rosary at 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately after the Rosary. A meal will be served at La Mansion Gonzales – San Diego following the service where those gathered can share cherished memories and support one another in remembrance of JoAnn. May we find solace in the cherished memories and lessons imparted by JoAnn during her time with us. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will endure for generations to come. JoAnn will be cremated after the services, and her remains will be entrusted to her loving husband. Arrangements are under the care of Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes, Inc.
