San Diego, Texas - Consuelo Cantu, 92, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at a nursing facility in Hebbronville, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 6, 1933, in San Diego, Texas, to her parents, Celestino Garza and San Juana Moreno.

Consuelo was a hardworking and devoted woman. She owned and operated a washeteria in San Diego from 1968 to 1983 and later dedicated over 20 years of service as a custodian for the Duval County Courthouse. She took great pride in her work and the life she built for her family.

She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—listening to music, dancing, and always having a good cup of coffee. Her favorite color was yellow, a reflection of her warm and cheerful spirit. Consuelo deeply loved her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. She also had a special love for her animals and found joy in sitting out on her porch, visiting with family and friends. Her presence brought comfort and happiness to those around her, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Celestino and San Juana Garza; her beloved husband, Hipolito Cantu; her son, Ladislado Cantu; and her son in law, Oscar Rene Carrillo.

Consuelo is survived by her two daughters, Berta (Eddie) Longoria and Vilma Cantu Carrillo; her sister, Emma Ibanez; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Active Pallbearers: Alonso Cantu, Samuel Longoria, Salvador Longoria, Adelaido Longoria III, Nicholas Carrillo, Hipolito Cantu, Oscar Carrillo II, and Victor Carrillo.

Honorary Pallbearers: Robert Ibanez, Jose Corona, and Jose Casteneda.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Valerio-Cantu Cemetery in La Rosita, Texas.
