Berta Cantu Longoria
June 25, 1949 – June 18, 2026

Berta Cantu Longoria entered this world on June 25, 1949, in San Diego, Texas. She was the firstborn child of Hipolito and Consuelo Cantu. Raised on a ranch in La Rosita, Texas, she grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the values that would guide her throughout her life. She later became a loving big sister to Vilma Cantu Carrillo and the late Ladislado Cantu.

As a young woman, she was intelligent, motivated, beautiful, and had a clever sense of humor. Then one day Berta met the love of her life, Adelaido Longoria Jr and they got married in 1970. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unconditional love. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Alonso Rolando Cantu, Salvador Longoria, Samuel Longoria, Vianca Longoria Martinez, and Adelaido Longoria III.

Berta was a devoted Catholic whose faith was the foundation of her life. Her mom and dad showed her and her siblings God’s love from an early age.  From there her love for God and her family were the sources of her strength, guiding her through every season of life. She was a nurturing, patient, and loving mother who dedicated herself to raising her children with strong values, compassion, and faith.  She took great joy in watching them grow into successful adults, marry, and build families of their own.

Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. She took every opportunity to share her faith, wisdom, and love with them, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue through future generations. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and refuge not only for her family but for many others throughout the years.

Although Berta held various jobs during her lifetime, the titles she cherished most were Wife, Mom, and Grandma. Following her retirement in the early 2000s, she enjoyed spending her days with her beloved husband and creating cherished memories with her grandchildren.

Berta was known for her generous heart, her welcoming spirit, and her remarkable cooking. Her homemade tortillas were second to none and were coveted whenever she made them.  She also had a lifelong love of animals. Whether caring for dogs, cats, birds, goats, geese, or chickens, she found joy in giving animals a safe and loving home. In return, they gave her the loyalty and companionship she treasured.

Her life was full, meaningful, and well lived. On June 18, 2026, the Good Lord called her home, where she was reunited with loved ones who had gone before her. She was 76 years old. 

Berta was preceded in death by her parents, Hipolito and Consuelo Cantu; her brother, Ladislado Cantu; and other beloved family members.

She is survived by her loving husband, Adelaido Longoria Jr.; her children and grandchildren, Alonso Rolando Cantu and wife Cecilia Cantu; their daughter, Mackenzie Cantu-Lopez, Salvador Longoria and wife Ana Melly Longoria, their sons, Salvador Longoria Jr., Michael Longoria, Samuel Longoria and wife Cristina Longoria; their daughters, Hannah Longoria, Emma Longoria, Camilla Longoria, Vianca Longoria Martinez and husband Gabriel Martinez; their children, Roland Bryce Clark, Christian Martinez, Adelaido Longoria III, Angela Saenz; their daughters, Liliana Longoria, Adelaide Longoria; her sister, Vilma Cantu Carrillo; her sister-in-law, Melissa Cantu; her aunt, Emma Ibanez, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and love.

Active Pallbearers: Roland Bryce Clark, Salvador Longoria Jr., Michael Jacob Longoria, Oscar Carrillo II, Nicholas Alexander Carrillo, Hipolito Cantu, Noel Reyes, and Ignacio Luera Jr.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, devotion, compassion, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 10:00 am. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. Burial to follow at The Longoria Family Cemetery in La Rosita, Texas.
