San Diego, Texas -Aurelia B. “Dida” Thompson, 81, passed away on April 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at a nearby hospital. She was born on February 14, 1945, in Alice, Texas to Alfredo Benavidez and Theodora Garza Benavidez.
Aurelia dedicated 36 years of service to the San Diego Independent School District, where she worked as an attendance clerk. She was known for her dedication, kindness, and the relationships she built throughout her years of service. She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures and especially cherished time spent with her family and friends. Aurelia loved gatherings filled with laughter, dancing, and good food. She enjoyed shopping, watching movies, late-night trips to Whataburger, barbecues, and spending evenings at Gruene Hall. Above all, she adored her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Aurelia will be remembered for her warm spirit, love of life, and the deep love she had for her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Aurelia is survived by her two sons, Eric Thompson, and Darryl Thompson; one brother, Alfredo “Shorty” (Gloria) Benavidez, two sisters, Dolores Rodriguez, and Lydia Serna; seven grandchildren, Erin Merie Thompson, Kimberly E. Thompson, Daina Elora Thompson, Katarina Elena Thompson, Eric Samuel Thompson, Cleo Kammilla Thompson, Donald Dillenger Thompson, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald “Donnie” Thompson, and her parents, Alfredo and Theodora Benavidez. Active Pallbearers: Eric Samuel Thompson, Donnie Dillenger Thompson, Isaac Rey Rubalcava, Joaquin Rey Rubalcava, Alfredo “Freddie” Rodriguez, Ronnie Benavidez, Balde Serna, and Tobin Shipp. Visitation will begin on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. Burial to follow at San Diego Cemetery No.2. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

Eric and Darryl, our sincere condolences and prayers for you and your families during this difficult time!!! I have fond memories of your parents. What a blast it was to hang out with them when we were young!!!
