On Saturday, January 19, 2019 Humberto "Bert" Salas, loving father of two, passed in his sleep at the age of 72.
Humberto was born on July 26, 1946 in San Diego, Texas to Atilano and Maria (Mercado) Salas. He was a 1964 graduate of Benavides High School, Benavides, Texas, and attended Texas A & I University. He served in the United States Army from 1967 through 1970. After the service Humberto pursued a career in Christian radio in the Houston area. Later he took managership of KGLF in Robstown, Texas. In 1995 he entered the retail business, serving with the Radio Shack Corporation as a manager in their Alice, Texas operation. After his retirement, Humberto joined the ranks of the local oil industry with the Woodgroup and STX of Freer, Texas until the time of his passing.
Humberto had a passion for Jesus Christ and the message of the gospel. He loved to examine the wonders of God's creation around him, and combined that passion with his thirst for truth and knowledge. He was an avid reader. Humberto was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Humberto was preceded in death by his father, Atilano M. Salas. He is survived by his two sons, Jeremy (Nikki) and Christopher (Adria), his mother, Maria Salas, three brothers, Atilano, Jr. (Melba), Ricardo Javier (Joyce), Daniel (Cindy), and two sisters, Gloria Alaniz (Corando), Esperanza Cavazos (Ovidio), and several grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Prayer service will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 7 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home of San Diego, Texas. Funeral services are on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas followed by military gravesite services by the United Veterans Burial Association of Alice, Texas at the Benavides Cemetery. Lucia G. Acuna was called into eternal rest on Friday, January 18, 2019. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and closest family members. She was born to the marital union of Clemente Garcia and Cleotilde Garcia-Garcia on November 3, 1941 in San Diego, Texas.
At age 16 , Lucia and her family relocated from San Diego to Corpus Christi. She graduated from Ray High School in 1959, received her undergraduate degree from The Incarnate Word, and received her master’s degree from Corpus Christi State University in 1973. She proudly served her community as a science teacher and later a school counselor with CCISD and San Antonio ISD for 33 years. She was a devoted Catholic and proud grandmother of eight beautiful grandchildren. She never missed an important graduation, soccer game, or Friday night football game. She was a best friend and mother to all who knew her. Lucia had the distinct ability to easily transition from heals and pearls to boots and a brush jacket, and would gladly accommodate her visitors with her famous chili, tamales, or delicious snacks.
On September 1, 1962, she married Arturo Acuna in Corpus Christi and celebrated 53 years of marriage. She had four children, Christi, Jeff, Carina, and Adrian.
Lucia is survived by her brother Ruben Garcia (Bey, deceased); Sisters Olga Bonilla (Tony), Dora McClurg (Henry, deceased), and Nicki Valdez (Sal, deceased); daughters Christina Shafer (Bill), and Carina Terry (Mark); sons Arthur Jeffrey Acuna, and Adrian Acuna (Corinne); grandchildren David Shafer (Sarah), Allison Shafer-Ledesma (Teo), AJ Acuna, Hanna Terry, Lyddie Terry, Andy Acuna, Joseph Terry and James Terry. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Arturo (2016), brother Clemente Garcia (2008), and sister Mary Lou Gonzalez (1978)
Holy Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 7pm at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Viewing begins at 5pm. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at The Immaculate Conception Mission Church in Concepcion, Texas. San Diego, Texas: Antonia A. Hinojosa 79 years of age passed away in her home on January 15, 2019. Antonia was a homemaker. She was an avid hunter, a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan and loved to buy bingo scratch off tickets. Antonia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents Felix Arredondo Sr, and Maria Concepcion Villarreal, her husband Miguel Arnoldo Hinojosa, one son Arnoldo Adrian Hinojosa and numerous brothers and sisters. Surviving are her son Luis Daniel Hinojosa, five daughters Elida (Roberto) Duenez, Norma (Roel) Solis, Hermelinda (Rogelio) Garcia, Nancy H. (Jason) Buentello, Veronica Hinojosa (J.R. Barrera), two brothers Raul Arredondo, Tomas Arredondo, one sister Angelita Perez all of San Diego, Texas, A special grand-daughter Emily Ann Cantu (Jason Aguilar ), 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will begin visitation on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Abelino C. Moreno 80 years of age passed away January 3, 2019 at his residence in Alice, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents Juan L.Moreno and Maria Salinas Moreno. He was a retired Truck Driver. Abelino was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
